Uganda National Association of Community and Occupational Health

On behalf of the Uganda National Association of Community and Occupational Health (UNACOH), and on my own behalf, it is a pleasure to congratulate the Canadian Public Health Association on reaching its centennial year. Your Association has been a leader on advocacy and action on many public health issues over the years, both in Canada and within the global public health community. Indeed under the SOPHA Program, CPHA has held many a hand of national and regional Public Health Associations (PHAs), helping them to grow and to play a bigger role in international Public Health affairs, especially by joining the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA).

UNACOH’s first contact with CPHA was through the East, Central and Southern Africa Public Health Association (ECSAPHA) in 1988, when UNACOH was barely one year old. Then in 1993, Jim Chauvin, came to Kampala and he opened the door for UNACOH to play a bigger local, national, regional and international role in public health when CPHA funded the first UNACOH-SOPHA project. The UNACOH-CPHA relationship has since flourished by leaps and bounds. We have enjoyed the guidance and friendship of CPHA through the many wonderful CPHA members and staff we have interacted with, over the years.

We, at UNACOH, are very proud of the many local, national, regional and international achievements that have accrued from our collaboration with CPHA. We are confident that as CPHA reaches and passes 100 years, many more and greater achievements are yet to come.

UNACOH wishes CPHA a very successful Centennial Conference in June 2010, and lots of success with other centennial events and activities throughout 2010 and beyond!

Again, our heartfelt congratulations, as we look forward to continued collaboration in our mutual efforts to attain Health for All and by All in Canada, Uganda and indeed in the global village, the World!

Sincerely,

Dr.Deogratias Kaheeru SEKIMPI
Ag. Executive Director, UNACOH
